This Privacy Policy explains how Varta ("Varta", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the Varta mobile application.

Varta is a private digital campus community designed for verified university students.

1. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use Varta, we may collect the following information.

Account information

• Email address
• Account identifier
• Authentication information required to maintain your account

Student profile information

• Full name
• Username
• University or institute
• Branch or course information
• Academic year
• Profile photo
• Profile biography and links that you choose to provide

Student verification information

To restrict Varta to eligible university students, we may collect documents or images submitted for student verification.

Verification material is treated separately from public profile information and is accessible only where necessary for verification and moderation.

Content and social activity

When you participate in Varta, we may process information such as:

• Posts and post images
• Comments
• Likes
• Organizations you follow
• Events in which you express interest
• Reports and blocking actions
• Feedback that you submit

Notifications and device information

If you enable notifications, Varta may process:

• Push notification token
• Device platform
• Notification preferences

Varta does not currently use your precise location for its core service.

2. How We Use Information

We use information collected through Varta to:

• Create and maintain user accounts
• Verify university-student eligibility
• Display student profiles and campus content
• Provide posts, comments, likes, organizations, and events
• Deliver requested notifications
• Prevent abuse and enforce community rules
• Process reports and blocking actions
• Improve reliability, security, and functionality

3. How Information Is Shared

Varta does not sell personal information.

Information may be processed by service providers that help operate Varta, including:

• Supabase for authentication, database services, secure application functions, and selected file storage.
• Cloudflare for storage and delivery of ordinary social-media images used within Varta.
• Expo and associated notification infrastructure for application distribution and push-notification functionality.

These providers process information only as necessary to provide infrastructure used by Varta and are subject to their own privacy and security terms.

We may also disclose information where required by applicable law, legal process, or where reasonably necessary to protect users, prevent fraud, or protect the security of Varta.

4. Visibility of User Content

Varta is designed as a university community. Certain profile information and content you publish may be visible to other eligible users of the same university community.

Student verification documents are not intended to be displayed as public profile content.

5. Data Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect user information.

These measures include authenticated access, database access controls, restricted storage permissions, encrypted network connections, and limiting sensitive administrative access.

No electronic service can guarantee absolute security, but we work to reduce unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or loss.

6. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate Varta, maintain your account, provide requested features, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and comply with applicable legal obligations.

Some information may be retained for a limited additional period where necessary for security, fraud prevention, backups, legal obligations, or enforcement of our policies.

7. Account and Data Deletion

You may request deletion of your Varta account and associated personal data.

When an account deletion request is completed, associated personal data will be deleted except where retention is required or permitted for legitimate security, fraud-prevention, dispute, or legal purposes.

8. Your Choices

You may:

• Edit eligible profile information inside Varta
• Control available notification preferences
• Delete content where the app provides that option
• Block other users
• Report inappropriate content or users
• Request deletion of your account
• Contact us regarding your personal information

9. Children

Varta is intended for university students and is not designed for children under 13.

If we learn that personal information from a child has been collected contrary to applicable requirements, we will take appropriate steps to remove it.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Varta changes or as legal and regulatory requirements evolve.
